Choosing a Wood Floor - The Home Improvement Source

First and foremost you must like the way the wood looks. The color, size and texture are the first things one must look for.

There are other factors to consider:

Engineered wood is a thin sheet of wood that is supported by plywood. This type of wood is mostly used for more humid areas to keep the floor from warping. The thickness of the wood on top of the plywood contributes to the durability of the wood. Solid wood flooring has the potential to warp and is usually used in less humid areas and the second floor of a house.

Wood density is always a factor when choosing a hardwood floor. When it comes to wood floors, higher density means greater durability. Keeping this in mind, wood is easily scratched or dented regardless of density.
